As promised, here are the survivors of my little iPhone home screen experiment. I will not go into too much detail about the items themselves (I will do so later, I swear). Instead, I wanted to just note a couple things I found interesting…
First, I was surprised by how many things came back within just a few hours of starting the experiment. I guess I was using more things on the home screen than I thought. Conversely, I was also surprised by how these things are almost all I use on my iPhone on a basis I would call regular.
Second, the built in contacts app is a really useful gateway to other built in apps. For instance, I almost always get to the Maps app by going through Contacts, finding the person and address, and launching it from there. Thus, no reason to have the Maps app front and center.
Lastly, I have been trying to get in the habit of “search” instead of “swipe” like my friend Jack. It is taking a little bit to form the new habit but it is much more efficient in many cases.
